The heavily anticipated indie puzzle-platformer Toodee and Topdee currently under development by brothers Gonen and Ori of Diet Zribi LTD is set to release on August 4th, 2021.

Toodee and Topdee was initially conceived back in April 2018 after being entered into the Ludum Dare 41 game jam with the theme being “combine two incompatible genres.” After receiving a large level of praise for the initial jam piece, Gonen and Ori decided to continue to develop the game into their first commercial project.

In Toodee and Topdee you play as, you guessed it, Toodee and Topdee as the worlds of 2D platforming and top-down block-pushing collide with both characters having to work together to complete each level.

Speaking to Gaming Sandbox, Gonen and Ori said it was “very exciting” being able to announce the release date and that

it was pretty stressful right until the announcement and even afterwards, but now that some time has passed it feels like a relief!

Both Gonen and Ori were blown away at the response to Toodee and Topdee despite the game not even being released yet!

We see that a lot of people are excited about the game based on the media that we share and the limited demo that we had up, and that’s unreal to us! We started this game as a jam prototype which we made under 3 days. We really loved it, and we received a lot of great feedback that it should be developed into a full game, so it was an easy choice for us to go with that. But still we never imagined the amount of love we would get for this. We hope that the full game delivers!

Both of them are now hard at work getting set for the game’s launch in just over two weeks with a lot of focus on “bug fixing, playtesting, PR, and marketing.”

The reaction online to the announcement has been extremely positive with many eagerly awaiting the game’s release.

The game’s composer Kajnoon even chimed in, showing his excitement about the project’s release date of August 4th, 2021.

Toodee and Topdee is available to wishlist on Steam and if you’d like to get a taster of some very early gameplay you can still check out Gonen and Ori‘s game jam submission of the title from 2018 on itch.io!
