No key content is set to be locked behind paid DLC in Vampire Survivors.

Vampire Survivors was the indie darling of 2022 for a lot of players with it garnering both critical and commercial acclaim for its addictive gameplay and a surprising level of depth. With the recent release of the Legacy of the Moonspell DLC, solo developer Poncle clarified the future of DLC content for Vampire Survivors.
In a Steam blog, Poncle noted that all future KEY post-launch content would be completely free and that any future paid DLC such as Legacy of the Moonspell would only provide extra levels for players to enjoy. In the post they said:
Poncle – Developer of Vampire SurvivorsPlease remember that DLCs will only ever add more characters/weapons/stages and that the main game will keep getting updated regularly with main game mechanics and content (think Tiny Bridge-style patches) so that no key-feature will ever be gatekept by a paywall.
Vampire Survivors is set to receive new DLC in 2023 in both a paid and free capacity but this will probably be at a slower pace than last year.
Poncle – Developer of Vampire SurvivorsSince the last few months were mental with v1.0, Xbox, mobile, and the DLC, please expect patches to be released at a slower pace compared to 2022, as we have to swap to a more sustainable release pipeline and also coordinate patches between a lot of platforms, not to say that, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, we now have 2 different versions of the game to maintain.
It is certainly a welcome surprise to hear this from Poncle as I imagine many fans of Vampire Survivors would happily pay for any DLC the developer wanted to put out for the game considering its extremely cheap starting price of only €4.99 and the DLC, Legacy of the Moonspell‘s price of just €1.99. Needless to say, it’s fair to assume that Vampire Survivors will continue to dominate the indie scene for the foreseeable future with many absolutely infatuated by the plethora of addictive content already available.
